Prompt:
My unit plan theme is on doing the right thing and making the right choices. We are reading the book Number the Stars so I wanted to find a poem that went with my theme. Here is my poem by Malaya Bodlaver and my activity to go with it.
Pre-wrtiting:
1) Think about what it means to you to do the right thing. What do you consider to be the right thing and would you do it if you would be seen differently?
2) Think about what you wrote down and construct your own Doing the right thing poem.
Drafting:
1) Every 1st sentence must begin with sometimes it means and the 2nd must begin with when.
2) Put what you brainstormed about into your poem but follow the format I gave you.
3) Has to be at least ten lines, so five stanzas is all that I am requiring
4) Make sure you title your poem (you can make one up or simply use the title of the published poem, I would like for you to be original) and do not forget to put your name on your paper.
Published Poem:
Doing the right thing..... Sometimes it means giving in
When you know that nothing else matter
Sometimes it means needing to be quiet
When words can no longer deliver the message
Sometimes it means going separate ways
When things have gotten unbearable and hopeless
Sometimes it means turning away
When your presence will do more harm than good
Sometimes it means giving up your dreams
When you no longer have time to dream
Sometimes it means stop hoping
When there's nothing else to hope for
Sometimes it means giving up your reasons
When you know that they just don't fit
Sometimes it means masking your true feelings
When you know that you have to put up a face Sometimes it means keeping the love within your heart
When you know that it can only bring pain. Malaya Bodlaver
Model Poem:By: Ms. Bostic Doing what you know is right... Sometimes it means being anonymous When you know you would love the recognition Sometimes it means being different from others When you know you would rather fit in Sometimes it means hurting others When you know they are the ones doing wrong Sometimes it means losing friends When you know they are only bringing you down Sometimes it means to stop caring When what you care about no longer benefits you Sometimes it means standing up for yourself When you are tired of being put down
